DRIVER/SANITATION

Job Title:  Driver

Department:  Sanitation.

Shift:  1st

Classification:  Hourly, Non-Exempt (Grade 8:  $12.75-$18.60)

Essential Functions:

  1. Drives and operates refuse collection truck in a safe, efficient, and legal manner on assigned route; ensures route is completed in a safe and timely manner, including assisting on other routes to meet customer needs.
  2. Assist in collecting and loading operations as needed.
  3. Inspects refuse truck daily to ensure vehicle is properly equipment, serviced, and cleaned; reports needed repairs or safety issues to supervisor; performs minor maintenance as needed or required.  
  4. Serves as crew leader over assigned employees engaged in manual laborer.
  5. Courteously interacts with customers ensuring customers are serviced in a professional and timely manner.
  6. Reports any service issues such as blocked alleyways, over-weight containers, safety hazards, or impassible streets to supervisor; reports needed container repairs or replacements to supervisor.
  7. Clears waste from packer blade and truck body on each trip to disposal site.
  8. Performs related work as assigned or required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Considerable knowledge of traffic laws and regulations involved in equipment operations.
  2. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the operations of assigned equipment associated with manual labor task.
  3. Knowledge of street and address locations.
  4. Excellent truck driving/maneuvering skills.
  5. Time management skills to ensure duties are completed in a safe and efficient manner.
  6. Ability to read and understand map.
  7. Ability to make simple field repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, subordinate employees, customers, general public and those contacted in the course of work. relationships with the general public.
  9. Ability to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  10. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  11. Ability to work overtime, including weekends and holiday when necessary.
  12. Ability to perform all essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A or B, with driving record suitable for insurability.
  2. Two years of commercial driving experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Sufficient physical strength to lift and carry 75 pounds; ability to walk, kneel, squat, climb, push, pull, and to sit for prolong periods of time.
  2. Ability to work in very cold and hot temperatures and to work in inclement weather.

School Crossing Guard (PT/Seasonal)

Job Title:  School Crossing Guard (Part Time/Seasonal)

Department:  Police Dept.

Classification:  Hourly

The City of Guntersville currently has an opening for School Crossing Guard.  This is a part-time, seasonal position.  The essential functions and knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Essential Functions:

  1. Traffic control to ensure safety of students entering and exiting school by using hand signals, signs, or flags.
  2. Ensure students are made award of hazards that may be posed to them when crossing street, without paying attention to the surroundings.
  3. Stops and warns unsafe drivers of traffic laws and safety concerns as needed.
  4. Reports to SRO or school official any unsafe, unusual, or suspicious activity that is noticed around school parking lots or grounds.
  5. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of traffic and pedestrian laws, rules, and regulations and ability to demonstrate such knowledge.
  2. Knowledge of crosswalks, road entrance and exits, and traffic flow patterns at designated school locations.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully with the general public.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain and effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, school officials, teachers, bus drivers, general public and those in contact in the course of work.
  5. Ability to control traffic flow while escorting pedestrians across road.
  6. Ability to react calmly and quickly to emergency situations.
  7. Ability to learn from observation.
  8. Ability to report to work 2 shifts daily (morning and afternoon) and to provide regular and predictable attendance.
  9. Ability to work a flexible schedule and report to early dismissals as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  2. Must have a valid Alabama Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and to perform crossing guard duties in any weather condition.
