The City of Guntersville’s governing body is made up of a Mayor and seven Council Members. The Mayor is elected at large and Council Members are elected by district. Elections are held every four years.
The Mayor serves as the city’s chief executive officer, centralizing executive power. The Mayor directs the administrative structure, appointing and removing department heads. The Mayor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the City.
The City Council serves as the Governing body of the city and determines all municipal policies such as the city budget, adopts ordinances and resolutions, helps establish long- and short-term objectives and priorities, communicates policies and programs to residents, responds to constituent needs and complaints, and represents the community to other levels of government.
Regular council meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month at the Guntersville Town Hall. The meeting schedule may change if the regular meeting falls on a Holiday. Work Sessions will be scheduled as needed. For the Council Meeting agendas click here.
