Cultural District “Creeps & Treats”

WHAT’S HAPPENING
The Cultural District is getting creepy! Spend the evening exploring the Library, Museum, Whole Backstage Theatre, and the surrounding neighborhood for spooky activities, stories, games, treats, and plenty of Halloween surprises. Wander from place to place, trick-or-treat along the way, and see what’s lurking around every corner!

Guntersville Public Library

Little Feet Harvest Maze:
A little maze for little feet! Our Gilbreath-McCain Community Center will be transformed into a cozy harvest maze made especially for our youngest visitors. Little ones can crawl and wander their way through straw bales, fall fun, and a few gentle surprises—with no big scares along the way.

Best for: Toddlers through early elementary
Location: Gilbreath-McCain Community Center (formerly known as our auditorium)

Lost in the Stacks:
Something has gone terribly wrong in the Library… the monsters have escaped from their books! Make your way through the darkened stacks, where classic creatures and literary monsters are lurking around every corner. Find each monster and collect its special candy token to help send it back where it belongs—inside its story!

Best for: Older children, teens, & brave grown-ups
Location: Guntersville Public Library. Enter through our amphitheater entrance, exit to Gilbreath Street.

A Tale from the Shadows:
Gather beneath the night sky at the Library Amphitheater for a theatrical telling of Edgar Allan Poe’s chilling classic, The Tell-Tale Heart.

Best for: All ages
Location: Library Amphitheater
Performance Times: Every 30 minutes, on the hour and half-hour

Guntersville Museum

Carnival Games:
Step right up for some Halloween fun at the Guntersville Museum! Stop in and try your hand at a collection of carnival games perfect for adding a little friendly competition to your night of Creeps & Treats. Play a game (or a few!) before heading off to your next spooky stop in the Cultural District.

Best for: Toddlers through elementary
Location: Guntersville Museum

An Alabama Ghost Story:
Alabama has a few ghost stories of its own! Gather at the Museum for a theatrical telling of one of the legendary tales from 13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey.

Best for: All ages
Location: Guntersville Museum
Performance Times: Every 30 minutes, on the hour and half-hour

Whole Backstage Theatre

Black Box Theater Haunt:
The curtain rises on something spooky at Whole Backstage Theatre! Your journey begins as you make your way down a haunted hallway leading into the Black Box Theatre. Once inside, settle in as a mysterious storyteller brings a theatrical haunted tale to life—just watch the shadows while you listen!

Before you venture back out into the night, stop by concessions for a free cup of cider.

Best for: Families, older children, teens, & adults
Location: Whole Backstage Theatre – Black Box Theatre

NEIGHBORHOOD TRICK-OR-TREATING
The treats don’t stop at the Cultural District attractions! Take a stroll through the surrounding neighborhood and visit our official Creeps & Treats stops along the way.

Look for the orange bows! Participating neighbors will have a bright orange bow on their mailbox to let trick-or-treaters know they’re an official stop and ready for visitors.

You may find plenty of other neighborhood homes joining in the Halloween fun, too—so bring your treat bag and enjoy a little old-fashioned neighborhood trick-or-treating as you make your way through the district!

Best for: All ages
Look for: Orange bows marking official Creeps & Treats stops

TREATS
All that creeping and treating can work up an appetite! Stop by the Museum for some snacks before heading off to your next spooky stop. And for a cozy Halloween drink, stop by the Whole Backstage Theatre, where complimentary cider will be available at concessions.

Snacks: Guntersville Museum
Cider: Whole Backstage Theatre
Cost: Complimentary for event guests while supplies last

PARKING AND ACCESSIBILITY
Free parking is available at several locations throughout the Cultural District. Please note that some areas will be closed or have limited vehicle access during the event.

Guntersville Public Library
Parking is available in the lower Library parking lot, including two handicapped parking spots. There are an additional two handicapped parking spots on the Gilbreath side of the Library. The upper lot will be closed for the evening due to nearby road closures.

Whole Backstage Theatre
Parking is available in both the front and rear parking lots.

First Baptist Church
Additional event parking is available in the First Baptist Church lots at Obrig Avenue and DeBow Street, just a one-block walk from the Cultural District.

A special thank-you to First Baptist Church for graciously allowing Creeps & Treats guests to use their parking lots for the evening!

Please watch for road-closure signs and use extra caution as you walk between event locations.

RESTROOMS AND WATER FOUNTAINS

Need a quick pit stop between all the creeping and treating? Public restrooms are available at all three Cultural District locations throughout the event.

Guntersville Public Library
Restrooms are available inside the main Library building and the Gilbreath-McCain Community Center. Water fountains/bottle fillers are also available near both sets of restrooms.

Guntersville Museum
Public restrooms are available inside the Museum.

Whole Backstage Theatre
Public restrooms and a water fountain are available inside the Theatre.
