Nature of Work

This is a skilled manual labor position responsible for the repair and maintenance of small engines on powered equipment used in the daily operations of the Street/Maintenance Department. Work also may involve supporting labor force within the department.  Work is performed and reviewed under the direct supervision of the Assistant Street/Maintenance Supervisor and under the general supervision of the Street/Maintenance Supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Diagnosis, adjust, repairs, and/or overhauls small engines used to power lawn mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, jack hammers, concrete mixers, skill saws, concrete saws, and other departmental equipment.
  • Diagnosis, adjust, and repair tractor implements.
  • Performs general, seasonal, and preventive maintenance task necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment; provides information to employees on equipment maintenance.
  • Test machinery, equipment, and parts for proper operations; reports problem situations.
  • Maintains, sharpens, and repairs hand tools.
  • Maintains records of maintenance and repairs; discusses cost of equipment repair in comparison to equipment replacement with appropriate personnel; provides information to employees on equipment maintenance.
  • Maintains inventory on supplies and parts; organizes parts and supply room.
  • Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with departmental operations.
  • Transports, loads, and unloads various equipment and materials used in departmental projects and operation.
  • Performs general facility maintenance and site clean-up.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of manual labor associated with maintenance and repair within street/maintenance department of municipal properties.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of applicable hand and powered tools, and light to heavy equipment used in daily operations of street/maintenance department.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the operation of assigned equipment and associated manual labor tasks.
  • Knowledge of applicable traffic laws.
  • Considerable knowledge of equipment maintenance principles and practices.
  • Skilled in the operation of applicable hand, power tools, and equipment used in street/maintenance department activities.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling of tools and/or equipment of the trade.
  • Skilled in the operation and maintenance of motor driven equipment used in public works activities.
  • Skilled in conducting inspections for potential safety hazards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret reference materials to guide maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to follow simple oral or written instructions.
  • Ability to operate light power equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, general public, and those in contact in the course of work.
  • Ability to perform essential functions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid unrestricted Driver’s License with driving record suitable for insurability.

Desirable Qualifications      

  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with driving record suitable for insurability.

Physical Requirements

  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform manual labor and to work in very cold and hot temperatures and work in inclement weather.
  • Sufficient physical strength to lift and carry at least 80 pounds; ability to walk, step, bend, kneel, squat, twist, climb, push, pull, and reach frequently.

Nature of Work

This is a semi-skilled position responsible for receiving and transmitting varied calls for Guntersville Police Department and dispatching emergency personnel and equipment as needed or directed.   Employees in this position work with CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) systems, telephones, two-way radios, and recording equipment.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the shift Lieutenant/Sergeant.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for receiving, processing, and documenting all calls for service for the Police Department by telephone or radio from the public and/or 911; relays information to the appropriate source for assistance; determines location and provides description of emergency to personnel responding.
  • Works with CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch), telephones, radios, recording equipment, etc.
  • Maintains outstanding warrant file.
  • Maintains file of missing personnel, stolen vehicles, stolen weapons, and other stolen property.
  • Monitors surveillance cameras throughout Police Department and City Hall.
  • Assist Detention Officer as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the geography and the highway and street systems of the City.
  • Some knowledge of local ordinances and laws.
  • Some knowledge of police terminology.
  • Skilled in the operation of computers, multi-line phones, and electronic data processing.
  • Skilled in handling emergency calls calmly, detecting the scope and magnitude of an emergency; dealing sympathetically with callers and ability to make rapid decisions under emergency conditions.
  • Ability to be helpful, courteous, and deal tactfully with the citizens of Guntersville.
  • Ability to prioritize incoming messages and determine most urgent need.
  • Ability to handle multi-tasks.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to achieve and maintain National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification.
  • Ability to attend off-site training when necessary.
  • Ability to communicated clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, general public, and those in contact in course of work.
  • Ability to perform all essential job functions.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid Alabama driver’s license with driving record suitable for insurability.
  • Any combination of experience and training equivalent to some experience in office work and/or radio communications.
  • Personal background record free of criminal convictions.
  • Must be able to pass physical and drug screening.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • One year of dispatching experience preferred.

Job Description

Nature of Work

This position consist of administrative and professional work in directing, planning, and managing all activities of the Guntersville Public Library.  Work also involves supervision of personnel and working closely with the Guntersville Library Board.  Work is performed and reviewed under the general supervision of the Mayor.

Essential Functions

  • Plans, directs, manages, and coordinates all the activities of the Library; promulgates and supervises adherence to rules and regulations of the Library.
  • Supervises, directs, provides instruction, and evaluates work of Library staff; ensures adherence to city policy and procedures and departmental guidelines; completes job performance evaluations on subordinate employees.  
  • Instructs personnel in general policies and procedures; conducts staff meetings; conducts informal training in library techniques and procedures.
  • Conducts a variety of public relations activities in interpreting the library to the public and in stimulating its use by the public including hosting special events, programs, workshops, and other activities to promote use of the library; meets with clubs, groups, community organizations, and others in explaining library system objectives and policies and in extending library services.
  • Meets with the Library Board on a regular bases in the interest of planning, library services, physical and program additions to the Library, and other matters.  Prepares reports and present to Library Board regarding policy matters, budget expenditures, and statistical reports.
  • Prepares grant applications; plans and administers acquisitions for collection development; supervises purchases; assist as needed in cataloging, weeding, and repairing of collection.
  • Assist as needed with collections, serving patrons, answering phone, answering questions or assisting with research request, and shelving library needs.
  • Prepares budget and oversees the financial operations of the Library. Ensures all funds are received and disbursed in accordance with the established accounting principles.
  • Establish long range goals for the growth and development of the Library’s services.
  • Maintains a safe and engaging environment of staff and visitors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities     

  • Extensive knowledge of principles, methods, and materials of library administration.

  • Considerable knowledge of the basic operations and practices of the publishing trade.
  • Advanced skills to operate a computer and applicable software (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.), including internet, and specialized library databases and software applications.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, and administer the overall operations of the municipal library system.
  • Ability to explain the operations and services of the library system to the public and to conduct effective public relations.
  • Ability to analyze the library needs and to evaluate library services and equipment.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively supervise assigned personnel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, elected officials, patrons, general public, and those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to perform all essential job functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program is preferred for this position. Candidates that are currently enrolled in a qualifying degree program will be considered.  A candidate should also have ten (10) years of any combination of relevant education, training or experience sufficient to perform essential functions, five years of which shall have been in a supervisory position.  Examples of relevant experience include public library experience and/or experience working directly with children, teens, and adults providing direct customer service.

Job Description

Nature of Work:

This is a part-time (29 hours or less) position that is responsible for transporting passengers throughout the county as needed and assisting with boarding or de-boarding when necessary.  Also requires accurate record keeping by completing daily trip logs.  This position receives supervision from the Director of Transportation.

Responsibilities:

  1. Operates public transportation bus within county district transporting passengers to and from destinations.
  2. Collects fares.
  3. Maintain accurate records pertaining to mileage, time, etc.
  4. Provide assistance to elderly/handicap passengers when needed.
  5. Complete pre-trip vehicle inspection and report any needed repairs to Transportation Director.
  6. Answers phone and schedules patron pick-ups as needed.

  6. Ability to work flexible hours
  7. Ability to understand and follow simple oral & written instructions.
  8. Ability to operate handicap lift and manual door of bus.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, bus patrons, general public and those contacted in the course of work.
  10. Ability to be helpful, courteous and deal tactfully with bus patrons and general public.
