The City of Guntersville’s governing body is made up of a Mayor and seven Council Members. The Mayor is elected at large and Council Members are elected by district, and elections are held every four years. Guntersville City Council meetings are held every first Monday at 12:00 Noon and third Monday at 5 p.m. unless specified otherwise, with Pre-Council being held 30 minutes prior. Mayor
The Mayor serves as the city’s chief executive officer, centralizing executive power. The Mayor directs the administrative structure, appointing and removing department heads. The Mayor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the City.
Council
The City Council serves as the Governing body of the city and determines all municipal policies such as the city budget, adopts ordinances and resolutions, helps establish long- and short-term objectives and priorities, communicates policies and programs to residents, responds to constituent needs and complaints, and represents the community to other levels of government.
