Guntersville Municipal Court is located at 325 Gunter Avenue within the City Municipal Building. The court has jurisdiction over traffic cases, non-traffic misdemeanor cases, and city ordinance violations which occur within the City of Guntersville or it’s police jurisdiction. If you have been arrested for a non-traffic offense, you must appear in court on your court date.
If you have an outstanding warrant, you must turn yourself in on the warrant and post the appropriate bond. If you have any questions concerning a warrant, you may contact the Guntersville Municipal Court office at (256) 571-7579.
There are basically two kinds of Guntersville traffic citations as described below:
“Court Appearance Not Required” Citations — If you have a “court appearance not required” citation and would like to take care of it without appearing in court, you may do so by appearing in-person at the court office and entering a plea of guilt to the traffic offense. You must do this PRIOR to your court date. At that time you will pay for the citation.
You may also remit your plea & payment by mail. Certified Check or Money Order is the only form of payment acceptable through the mail. We must receive such plea and payment within our Municipal Court office on or before your court date — postmark dates will NOT be honored as meeting the deadline! You may mail your plea and payment to:
325 Gunter Ave
Guntersville, AL 35976
If you do not want to plead guilty to the citation, you must appear in court on your court date to enter a plea before the judge. At that time, your case will be continued to another date in a trial setting.
“Court Appearance Required” Citations — If your citation requires a court appearance, you must appear in court on the court date listed on the citation. You will appear before the municipal judge and enter a plea on the charge. If you plead guilty, the judge will determine your fine amount and you will be able to pay the fine at that time. If you plead not guilty, your case will be continued to another date in a trial setting.
If you do not know whether or not your citation requires a court appearance, you may contact the Guntersville Municipal Court at (256) 571-7579
If you are a first-time traffic offender, you may be eligible for the city’s Defensive Driving School program which may allow you to keep a “clean” driving record.
If you have questions regarding your Alabama Drivers License please contact the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
The court office is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Court is held each Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. in Guntersville Town Hall located at 340 Blount Avenue.
